Concertare: An Evening of Concertos
With the advent of a more standardized orchestra came the concerto—a major work that featured one instrument with orchestral accompaniment.  Concertos by Vivaldi, Telemann, and more, as well as chamber selections rarely programmed.  Adrin Akins (countertenor), Jody Miller (recorder), Marcy Jean Brenner (viola da gamba), and Alexandra Dunbar (harpsichord and organ).

$20 donation requested; $10 for discounted categories; no one turned away due to inability to donate.

Lauda Musicam Chamber Concert
Lauda’s musicians showcase their impressive talents as well as the ensemble’s large inventory of early instruments in this concert featuring consorts of recorders, flutes, capped reeds, viols, and more. Renaissance instrumental music was most commonly performed in like-instrument groups, with an increased use of the “broken” (or mixed) consort as instrument-building methods evolved. The concert is free, but donations are gratefully accepted.

American Roots
American music developed through the influences of Native Americans, enslaved people, and immigrants from all around the world.  Whether jazz, gospel, folk, or pop, the evolution of “uniquely American” forms was shaped by a variety of cultures and traditions.  Eclectic Collective celebrates our rich musical heritage that was shaped through pain, poverty, hope, and circumstance.  $20 suggested general admission; $10 suggested for students, seniors; no one turned away for inability to donate.

Mountain Collegium Early Music & Folk Music Workshop – workshop director

One of the largest weeklong workshop in the country, Mountain Collegium caters to singers and other musicians who play recorder, viol, brass, Renaissance reeds, folk instruments, or other early instruments.  Held on the campus of Western Carolina University, the scenic backdrop makes for a memorable and relaxing week of music making.
